RESTORED LIFE IS HERE TO HELP

Fentanyl Addiction

Fentanyl is an opioid that is 50 times more potent than heroin.

A single dose, roughly the size of a pinch of salt, can be lethal.

If you need support for fentanyl addiction, we know how to help.

WHAT IS FENTANYL?

An Extremely Powerful Synthetic Opioid

Fentanyl was initially created as a prescription drug to alleviate severe pain in patients. There are two varieties of fentanyl:

  • Legal, pharmaceutical fentanyl
  • Illicit, illegally manufactured fentanyl

Medical professionals prescribe legal fentanyl in different forms, including patches, lozenges, and injections. In contrast, illegally manufactured fentanyl often appears on the black market. This illicit version can be mixed with other substances, such as:

  • Heroin
  • Cocaine
  • Methamphetamine
  • Counterfeit pills that resemble prescription opioids
  • ADHD medication
  • Anti-anxiety medications

Fentanyl: Key Facts and Statistics.

Recent data from the National Institutes of Health, featured in the National Survey of Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), indicates that more than 20 million individuals aged 18 and older in the United States are affected by a substance use disorder.

  • In 2021, there were 70,601 deaths linked to fentanyl, signifying an alarming increase of over 7,000% since 2001 (CDC).
  • Fentanyl is involved in 67% of drug overdose cases (NCAPDA).
  • Tragically, more than 150 individuals succumb to overdoses related to synthetic opioids like fentanyl every day (NIDA).
  • A staggering 70% of street pills analyzed for fentanyl were found to contain at least 2 mg of the substance, a dosage considered potentially lethal (USDEA).
  • Notably, 2 mg is roughly equivalent to a pinch of salt or sugar. Furthermore, just one kilogram of fentanyl has the capacity to kill 500,000 people (USDEA).
